There are many ways to get involved with cultural clubs, societies, opportunities, and events that celebrate and promote different cultures and traditions, both at Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ and around the world! Participating can help broaden your understanding of the rich diversity around us.

[1] The University Grapevine's Culture Club

What is Culture Club?

Culture club is a FREE online cultural exchange programme connecting higher education students from around the world. Organised by The University Grapevine, it gives you the opportunity to share your culture, experiences, and perspectives, discover new perspectives, practice English, and make lasting international connections from all over the world. Why should you join?

  • It's FREE and you gain free access to the . 
  • This is a fun, low-stress and engaging programme to learn more about other cultures from around the world, that results in long-lasting friendships!
  • It’s a sustainable and very diverse global experience. You aren’t just paired from two locations. You will interact globally - exchanging multiple cultures, viewpoints, language(s) and language varieties.
  • Participants receive to share on their online profiles and CV helping you to stand out in the competitive job market. You also have the chance to earn a Cultural Leadership Award (NEW in 2026), or Teacher Qualification. 
  • You can also use your participation towards the RED Awards!

When does it take place?

Culture Club takes place once a year for ten weeks (Oct-Dec). Student applications MUST be received by October 1st!

In 2026, there will be 3 clubs (exact dates can be found on their website):

  • Club A meets on Wednesdays 11:00 -12:00 JST (03:00-04:00 BST / 02:00 - 03:00 GMT)
  • Club B meets on Mondays 16:30 -17:30 JST (08:30-09:30 BST / 07:30 - 08:30 GMT)
  • Club C meets on Mondays 22:00 -23:00 JST (14:00-15:00 BST / 13:00 - 14:00 GMT

What do I need to take part?

All you need is access to a device with internet and a free !

What should I do next?

  1. to make sure you are available to take part.
  2. . Don't wait too long to apply, the deadline is very close to the start of the semester! NB: One application per student.
  3. Attend the 5 zoom ‘parties’ in the schedule. Students who participate in at least 3 sessions will receive .

[2] Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Students' Union Cultural, Faith, and Arts Societies

Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Students' Union has a wide range of student-led societies celebrating different cultures, faiths, languages, interests and communities. With more than 100 societies to choose from, there are many opportunities to meet people, share interests and experiences, and get involved in cultural activities and events.

Below is a selection of societies that may be of particular interest if you want to explore different cultures, languages and communities. Societies often run events in the Global Study Lounge, with details shared via our  . While some events are for society members only, many societies also run events that are open to the wider student community, particularly for major cultural celebrations.

[3] Department of Languages and Cultures and 'Languages for All' Clubs and Events

 

The Department of Languages and Cultures and Languages for All offer clubs, events, and activities with a cultural or linguistic focus. Current opportunities are listed below. More information about these clubs is available on our Conversation Cafes page.

  • French Conversation Club

  • Italian Conversation Club at BEGINNERS, INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED levels.
