The first ever scholarship at Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ was started in 1900 to support music. More than a century later, that spirit of support lives on. You can help nurture talent, inspire musical confidence, spread happiness and make some noise!
Music is truly powerful. It provides a creative outlet that helps students feel connected. From jam nights to concerts, performances and workshops, the music programme brings people together.
Through music, students also develop skills that extend far beyond the rehearsal room. Music can reduce stress, boost confidence, and build a real sense of belonging. It also encourages teamwork, leadership, good time management and self-discipline – qualities highly valued by employers.

In our centenary year we’re introducing a brand new music bursary. The bursary aims to support talented young people to continue to learn and grow as musicians, performers and group leaders.
Each bursary is worth £600 and students will receive:

“All too often I’ve seen incredibly talented musicians arrive at university and have to make seriously tough decisions about their financial priorities. Student loans barely cover the essentials, so music lessons slip out of reach.
"With this new bursary, I want to ensure that as many musicians as possible continue to keep music central in their lives, develop their talents and progress on a positive pathway."
A gift to the Instrument Fund can help to grow the collection of instruments that students can use. The loan collection of string, brass and woodwind instruments ensures that talented musicians who can’t afford their own instruments can still access the equipment they need to keep playing. The Fund also helps cover instrument maintenance and repair costs.
With your help, we can also grow the range of instruments on offer. Our student community is global, and our World Music Ensemble encompasses a rich variety of musical styles. The current priority is to fund instruments that students cannot easily bring with them from their home countries, such as a marimba.
