Teams Premium
What is Microsoft Teams Premium?
Microsoft Teams Premium is a Teams add-on license that allows organisations with Microsoft 365 subscriptions to enhance their Teams experience with benefits such as:
- More personalised and intelligent meetings, webinars, and Town Halls.
- Enhanced protection for meetings.
- Advanced management and reporting capabilities.
- Advanced Bookings and virtual appointments.
- Additional options for Teams Calling with the Queue App
Microsoft are continuously updating this offering, so for a current list please see .
Which Teams features are now in Teams Premium?
With the release of Teams Premium, some of the features of Teams have been moved to requiring an additional Teams Premium license. If you are dependent on one or more of these features, they are now chargeable:
- PowerPoint: live chapters.
- Meetings: Live translation of meeting captions.
- Meetings: Timeline markers in Teams meeting recordings for when a user left or joined meetings.
- Meetings: Custom "Together" mode scenes.
- Bookings and virtual appointments: SMS notifications.
- Bookings and virtual appointments: Queues.
- Bookings and virtual appointments: Organisational analytics in the Teams admin centre.
We anticipate that Microsoft will continue to move "premium" features into their Teams Premium license. For an up to date list, please see .
How to get Teams Premium
To request Teams Premium, please go to in our Microsoft 365 portal (sign in with your University credentials if asked) and select "Request" in the Teams Premium line item.
You will be required to add a project code and business justification for the request (Teams Premium will be charged to your department at cost, approx. £20 per user per year, minimum one year license). As there is a charge, approval will be sought from your line manager. Once approved the request will be returned to DTS to apply the license to your account.
Once your request has been approved and activated, you will be able to see the Premium features in your Teams (you may need to restart Teams).
Note: The process can take up to 28 days for approvals to be gathered and the license ordered and applied.
