How to connect Personal Windows device to the Managed Print Service
Please use these instructions for connecting a personal Windows device to the Managed Print Service. Note: this is for your own (personal) device, not a Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ (UoR) device. For a UoR device, please follow the instructions on this page - How to connect to the Managed Print Service
Pre-requisites
- Your device must be connected via Eduroam to the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ network (or wired connection).
- You must not be using a VPN
- You must have a valid Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ IT user account. This service is unavailable to visitors.
Instructions
To install the FollowMe printers on a personal computer so you can use the UoR Managed Print Service:
Step 1: Open Windows File Explorer and paste the following location path in address bar:
\\software.rdg.ac.uk\ManagedPrint\Windows\MPSFollowMeNoUpdater_for_x64.exe
Alternatively, hold down the Windows key and then press R on your keyboard to open Run, paste the path location and click on OK.
Step 2: Click "Yes" on the next dialogue box which pops up (do you want to...) and then Install to begin installation
Step 3: Click on "Finish" once the installation has completed.
This will install both FollowMe-BW and FollowMe-Colour printers on your computer.
Please note: you will be asked to enter your username, e.g, ab123456 and password every time you use one of these printers.
Troubleshooting
There are many reasons why connecting a personal device to the UoR printers may fail and it may not always be possible to connect your device.
- If you get a message "Windows cannot access..." then make sure you are connected to Eduroam Wi-Fi, and that you do not have a VPN running.
- Visit the IT Service Desk on the First Floor of the Library so we can try and help in person.
If you can't get your own device connected you can print from any PC in the Library, as all the PCs in the Library are already connected to our printer network.
